Welcome to the American Youth Soccer Organization's Region 34. Our Platinum Award winning region is located in beautiful South Redondo Beach, California and boasts a great program where children between the ages of 4 to 18 can play in a safe, fun and fair environment. We also take great pride in providing our VIP program for players with mental & physical challenges. Down Syndrome, blindness, amputations, limited mobility... because we believe that there is no reason ANY child can't play soccer. To support good experiences for our children, we have incorporated our Safe Haven Program to protect children and the volunteers who work with them. Lastly, for our younger players (U5 - U10), we offer short-sided games. We believe that fewer players on the field means more opportunity to be in the action -- and to learn the game. All this adds up to great soccer by the beach! Thank you for visiting our site, feel free to navigate through our events and announcements and remember to PLAYSOUTHREDONDO!

AYSO 34 Frequently Asked Questions
Q: When do sign-ups start?
A: AYSO runs a Fall soccer league. However we start sign-ups in May so that we can help form teams and find coaches! Our league typically has ~1500 kids and 160+ teams so this is no small task!

Q: Where are games played?
A: All games are played at either Alta Vista Park (U5-U12) or Tulita (U10 only) or Parras Middle School(U14-U19).

Q: How old does my child need to be to play?
A: Your child must be 4 years of age by 7/31/2010 to play AYSO soccer in the Fall of 2010.

Q: How much does it cost to play?
A: Usual fees are $175 for the season and include a uniform, insurance, picture package and trophy for U5-U8. Early bird sign-ups (May) usually can save a few dollars and we also offer multi player discounts (per family) and scholarships/reduced fees for those families in need.

Q: Can my child play even if I don’t live in Redondo Beach?
A: Absolutely!! AYSO believes in open registration so it doesn’t matter where you live – we’d love to have you!

Q: What does my child need to play soccer?
A: Shin guards, cleats, a ball and a good attitude are all you need! AYSO 34 provides a uniform with socks, shorts and jersey to each player. Each player also receives a basic photo package during the season.

Q: I would like my child to play for a specific coach or with his friend. How do I request that?
A: In U5 and U6 we try to honor every request (some children are really popular though!). However in U7 and up we do not honor any requests as we make every effort to balance teams (one of AYSO’s core philosophies is Balanced Teams). We try to keep teams competitive by not allowing dominant teams to be built. Also, once we allow a request for one child or coach, we must do so for the next person and it just doesn’t work. We hope that your child will make new friends and learn new skills each year!

Q: Why do I need to volunteer?
A: AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. No one in AYSO 34 receives a salary or payment of any kind. We are all volunteers who have regular jobs, families and responsibilities just like you. The only way for the league to run efficiently is for everyone to pitch in. There are over 80 games played on our fields every weekend. Over 60 of them require referees. Plus we have a snack bar, fields to prepare, goals to set-up, etc.,etc. That’s a lot of people needed to make the league run! So please pitch in wherever you can –remember, it’s for the kids!

Q: Why can’t we get paid referees?
A: AYSO is an all-volunteer organization. For a variety of reasons (taxes, insurance, etc.) AYSO cannot pay referees. We do provide training for every referee and offer continuing education as well – all for free.
Remember, the ref on the field is giving their time and has been trained in the rules of soccer. You may not agree with their call but remember that they are a volunteer. If you have a question about a referee or a call, please feel free to send an email to our Referee Administrator at r34ra@yahoo.com.

Q: How can I sign up to coach or ref?
A: Easy! Just complete a volunteer form at www.eayso.org and bring it to registration. Let us know what age group you want to coach. We do require that each coach take the age appropriate coaching class and be certified as well as take a short Safe Haven class to be prepared in case of medical emergency. Sometimes we have too many coaches for a division and cannot accommodate a request to coach but more often than not we need you!

Q: Nope, sorry – still more questions! Who can I contact?
A: Feel free to contact John Rounds, AYSO 34 Regional Commissioner at ayso34info@yahoo.com!
